Negaunee Carpenters and Millwrights Apprentice Training Center
10 Original Sculptures & Intallations
I Designed 10 Original artworks for the Carpenter & Millwright Local 1510 Training Center, the main sculpture is freestanding in the lobby and embodies the Union’s pillars of Brotherhood, History, and Knowledge. Rising from a steel base, vintage Carpenters & Millwrights manual anchors the piece. Its pages ascending in a dynamic spiral of layered trade texts and training guides spanning generations. The sculpture reflects the structure of the Brotherhood itself: a strong foundation established in 1881, steadily lifting each apprentice, journeyman, and tradesman who contributes to its legacy.
Surrounding this central work are nine original wall pieces that extend the narrative throughout the space. Each piece explores a facet of craftsmanship — structure, precision, labor, mentorship, and shared advancement — reinforcing the idea that the Union is not a single pillar but an interconnected system built through skill, trust, and collective knowledge. Together, the works transform the lobby and Training Center into more than an entry point; it becomes a visual testament to opportunity, continuity, and the enduring strength of those who build.
